Subject: 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Lights won't turn off

My problem is, my dome lights inside the car will not shut off.
I have tried everything I can think of. The issue I think lies inside the driver side door or the backseat drivers side door.
When I shut my door, the lights will dim, and then shut off for maybe about 2 minues. Then, automatically, they come back on again. Then they stay on for EVER! Never turning off, until I have to undo the cable to my battery.

It's not a bulb. All the bulbs seem to work fine. I am not seeing a bad fuse. I have also tried pushing the button inside the door and it seems to go dim, but never completely off. I have tried taking it to a professional, and he doesn't seem to know what could be causing this issue either.

I want to know. If it IS in fact the computer, what am I going to have to do to get that fixed? Now, if it's a wire, what can I do to make it stop and is there instructions? It seems like it might be the button inside the door, I don't know. I would like to know, if anyone could give me some suggestions? That would be awesome! THank you!

Hey, I just came across this posting and no one has sent a reply. Sounds like it could be a simple fix. The first thing to check is the dash light dimmer, if you turn it all the way up, it will turn on the inside light. If that is not the problem, dimmer switch itself may be acting up and need replaced. When you open/close the doors, the door switch also grounds the circuit to turn on the light and if the dimmer switch is not grounding 100%, you would see the lights get brighter/dimmer when closing the door. Hope this helps and let me know if it doesn't and I will try and assist you further, terry@nhrv.com. I have a 93 Wrangler. Thanks, Terry
