NEXTEL CUP BURTON COMES BACK TO VICTORY LANE Many people had thought Jeff Burton was done winning races, but he's not and showed in Sunday's Dover 400 that he can do it, as well now sits atop the point standings with eight races to go in the Chase for the Cup. After a one hundred seventy-five winless streak, Burton battled with teammate Matt Kenseth to win his first since 2001 at Phoenix. Burton said in Victory Lane, "We have positioned ourselves to have something special happen, but just because we're in this position doesn't mean something special is going to happen.” and he now sits six points ahead of four time champion Jeff Gordon who said after finishing third in the race, "Eight races is an eternity.”
In the late going it looked like Kenseth had the race well in hand, but unfortunately two laps to go he ran out of fuel and had to duck into the pits for a quick splash and go and ended up finishing tenth. Carl Edwards, another former teammate to Burton, finished second, Gordon was third, former series champion Kurt Busch was fourth and Greg Biffle finished fifth.
As for Kasey Kahne, Kyle Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr's bid for the championship have almost evaporated because each had problems with their cars.
