The Piedmont Classic Chevy Club
, na

Who are we?

We are located in and around Raleigh, North Carolina. Generally speaking Central North Carolina, referred to as "the Piedmont", thus our name. The only requirement for membership is an active interest in the ole Chevys. It is not necessary to own one to be a member although most members do, and some have many old cars and belong to a variety of car clubs. The club was founded in 1974, incorporated as a non profit corporation in 1985, and has averaged over the years 40-50 member families. Our membership today is approximately 90 families.

What do we do?

The club usually meets every month, on the fourth Monday, at 7 PM in the Raleigh, NC Jaycee Center on Wade Avenue. At times we have a social outing rather than a business meeting. We travel to Car Shows, parades, other community events, have club outings and cruises, and sponsor an annual Car Show with most of the proceeds donated to a local charity. In addition we periodically have members and others present " Tech Sessions” where members can learn from those more experienced in working on the cars.

Our Members

Members vary in age from about 18 to 70. Members come from all walks of life including truck drivers, pilots, engineers, computer programmers, small business owners, salesmen and women, auto industry professionals, landscaping, office professionals, business executives, you name it!. Some of our members are women who also own these wonderful old Chevys. We have one 18 year old who drove her 57 Chevy daily to High School. She is now a freshman at a local college. The club held a workshop one Saturday this past September to make some improvements to her car.

The Cars

Until about 1996 we were a 55-57 Chevy Club. In keeping with the trend across the country we have changed the club to officially cover 55-72 Chevys. Anyone however is welcome to join, even if you don't own an ole Chevy. Our current membership covers Chevys ranging from 1917 to Chevelles, Nova's, Camaro's, Impala's to late model Corvettes and everything in between. Some don't own a Chevy and a a few own other makes. That's OK too.

Affiliations:

We are an "affiliated club" with Bowtie Chevy, Late Great Chevy, Yesteryears Chevys, and Classic Chevy International. Members are not required to be members of any of these organizations.

TigersUnited.com
, na

This Sunbeam Tiger site, about a classic British sport car, intends bringing clubs and enthusiasts together. See technical and historical information, pictures, links, and articles. There is a Forum for discussions and information, a fantastic search engine to find what you are looking for, links to other Sunbeam Tiger sites, clubs, and suppliers of Tiger parts and services.

The Sunbeam Tiger British classic sports car, made by the Rootes Group, England, was the brainchild of Ian Garrad. Ian convinced Rootes to hire American Carroll Shelby, the originator of the Shelby Cobra, to design a new model based on their Sunbeam Alpine roadster, into a fire-breathing performance machine.

The Carroll Shelby design team removed the 1.7 liter four cylinder engine and replaced it with a small block 4.2 liter Ford V-8, similar to the way he transformed the AC roadster into the Shelby Cobra, and production began in England in 1964. When Chrysler acquired the Rootes Group, later, they were dismayed to find one of their most popular cars was "Powered by Ford". This low-budget, high performance sport car captured the hearts, and pocketbooks of enthusiasts. Although production ceased in 1967, with less than 7,000 total made, the car is still sought today as one of Hemming's top 10 collectibles. The power of the Ford V-8, along with many performance options offered by Rootes, still burns up the street and tracks today, winning the SCCA GT2 class in 2000.
